I’ve run 35s (315/70/17) for about 5,000 miles now, and honestly, this might be a weird opinion because most people say the opposite, but I wouldn’t go 35s or 315s again. I’m planning to step down to something like a 295/70/17, 34x10.50R17, or maybe a 35x11.5R17.

All of these sizes still give a similar look, but they save a lot of rotational mass. When it comes to MPG, it’s not really the height of the tire that kills it — it’s the weight and the amount of power needed to keep that bigger tire spinning.

Don’t get me wrong, the truck looks great on 35s, and honestly the gearing actually feels pretty well-suited for them. But if I can shave some weight by going a little narrower or picking a lighter tire overall, that’s going to help long-term with fuel, acceleration, braking, and wear on the suspension.

The look is awesome, but the practicality just isn’t there for me.

Is this truck your daily? How much do you commute in this thing?
Not a daily but most of the miles are highway long distance trip miles. Definitely not a Tacoma built for trails.
