Quick questions on MTS (Multi-Terrain Select).
I’ve got a 2022 3rd-Gen Tundra (TRD OR), and MTS is one of the options. In previous trucks I’ve owned it before — back on an older Tacoma OR — and we basically never used it. At the time, different modes didn’t seem to change the way the truck felt or drove.
So I figured maybe on this newer Tundra with updated electronics it’d be better. But after running it a few times… still no difference that I can tell. Maybe a little tweak in throttle or braking response, but nothing dramatic.
Here’s what I’m wondering —
- Do you run MTS regularly on your 2022+ Tundra? What mode do you use most? (Mud/Sand, Rock, Dirt, Snow, etc.)
- Have you noticed a real difference in traction, throttle response, braking behavior, or stability compared to just leaving it in normal 2WD/4WD?
- For those who take your Tundra off-road or trail — does MTS really help over just careful driving and tire pressure adjustment, or is it just a placebo?
- Has anyone compared with and without: same trail, same load, same tires — and felt a noticeable difference?
Honestly — I’m starting to think that for many of us, skillful driving + good tires may beat the electronic modes. But maybe I’m missing something.
