Extended CV Axles - Lets talk about them

I have done a deep drive into the Extended CV Axles needed when doing a lift on the 3rd Gen tundra. Here is what I found. What are they? There are two sets of front CV axles that come stock on the 3rd Gen Tundra. The TRD Offroad packages and the TRD Pro Tundra come with a red set that are over all longer and stonger built for offroad. These upgraded Axles handle more weight and flex than the standard OEM Axles. What is the Difference? SpecStandard CVTRD / Extended CV Length~24.5–25.5"~25.5–26.5" Shaft Diameter~26–28 mm~30–32 mm Joint SizeSmallerLarger Plunge Travel~1.5–2.0"~2.5–3.0" When do you actually need them? This is on a case by case bases but most trucks do not need these extended axles. When using the standard size axles you may get a clicking or CV binding noise when at full flex. Full flex happens most often when you are offroad and you may have one wheel completely off the ground and the other side completely stuffed into the fender. At this point is where you will see the limitation of the CV axle. But 95% of the Tundra on the road today will not see the limitation as also the UCA becomes a binding point before the CV axle does. Other Options Now other than the OEM red TRD axles there are others on the market that are also extended that may fit your needs. You guys, I have always kind of cheaped out on a tonneau cover, or we'll say I did the budget build as I actually used to have the soft roll up Tonneau from RealTruck on my Tacoma and my Tundra when I first bought it. It served me well and was a great cover. BUT, I did get sick of not being able to rest anything on top, it not always lining up, how it would shift left or right, etc. etc. right? Having a hard tonneau cover is amazing and I really didn't know what I was missing out on. The tri-fold is for sure the way to go. I love how you can flip up what you need and what you don't. I also have full use of my brake lights and truck bed when hauling items. My friend needed to pick up some fencing panels, which were 8 ft and 10 ft so we needed to open the truck bed up. I locked the tri-fold up against the cab and it was super stable clipped in and with the rods as well. I love being able to set a cup or mug on top of the cover as well whenever I want. It's just SO convenient. RealTruck, you rock.

Anyone else go from soft cover to hard? Anyone else obsessed?
