With the confirmation that Toyota is building a new Tundra to compete with the Ford Raptor and Ram RHO. I had the idea of what if they put in a tuned down engine from the Toyota GR GT in the Tundra?

For those who don't know what the Toyota GR GT is click here. But here are also the motor specs.

  • Engine Type: 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 (3,998 cc) with Hybrid Assist
  • Power Ouput: 640HP
  • Torque: 627FT-LB
  • Configuration: 90-degree V8, Front-Midship
  • Induction: Hot-V (turbos located in the valley
  • Lubrication: Dry-Sump
  • Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic (Wet-Start Clutch)
  • Hybrid System: Single electric motor

Now I don't know about you but that sounds pretty awesome. But, this is not practical for a production consumer truck. Here is what should change.

1. Hot-v design may not be best for longevity of the turbos or motor.
2. Dry - Sump oiling system may not be the best for consumer use
3. Swap out the 8 speed transmission for the 10 speed already in use.

I feel like there is great opportunity here for this motor. BRING BACK THE V8!
