I think one of the most slept-on features of the 3rd gen Tundra is the little button on the tail light to drop the tailgate. I use it all the time. It’s super handy when you’re carrying something and can hit it with an elbow, or when you don’t want to reach way up and pull the tailgate from the top. Simple feature, but crazy useful.
Honestly, Toyota knocked this one out of the park. They didn’t over-engineer the tailgate. No weird folding systems, no motors, nothing that’s going to break. Just something functional that actually makes life easier while keeping the same reliability.
BUT…
I will say, I’d still love a built-in step like the Ford F-150 tailgate. If you’ve ever used one with the pop-out handle, you know how helpful it is — especially getting in and out of the bed with gear. It’s one of those things that isn’t overly complicated but adds a ton of convenience.
Anyone else miss having a tailgate step or wish Toyota would add one?
