I have done a deep drive into the Extended CV Axles needed when doing a lift on the 3rd Gen tundra. Here is what I found. What are they? There are two sets of front CV axles that come stock on the 3rd Gen Tundra. The TRD Offroad packages and the TRD Pro Tundra come with a red set that are over all longer and stonger built for offroad. These upgraded Axles handle more weight and flex than the standard OEM Axles. What is the Difference? SpecStandard CVTRD / Extended CV Length~24.5–25.5"~25.5–26.5" Shaft Diameter~26–28 mm~30–32 mm Joint SizeSmallerLarger Plunge Travel~1.5–2.0"~2.5–3.0" When do you actually need them? This is on a case by case bases but most trucks do not need these extended axles. When using the standard size axles you may get a clicking or CV binding noise when at full flex. Full flex happens most often when you are offroad and you may have one wheel completely off the ground and the other side completely stuffed into the fender. At this point is where you will see the limitation of the CV axle. But 95% of the Tundra on the road today will not see the limitation as also the UCA becomes a binding point before the CV axle does. I’ve been digging into color options for the 2022+ Tundra and got curious about which ones are actually rare. Toyota doesn’t publish official paint-by-numbers production data, but I used AI and other search tools put together some numbers. Based on U.S. sales totals (about 389,000 Tundras sold from 2022–2024) and dealer/marketplace availability, here’s a solid set of estimates by color. I personally own a Smoked Mesquite truck which I love but a guess its probably not going to hold resale value because its not the most wanted color?

Estimated U.S. Production by Color (2022–24 combined):

Ice Cap / Wind Chill Pearl (White) → ~30% → ~116,700 trucks
Midnight Black Metallic (Black) → ~24% → ~93,400 trucks
Magnetic Gray Metallic → ~13% → ~50,600 trucks
Celestial Silver Metallic → ~12% → ~46,700 trucks
Blueprint → ~7% → ~27,200 trucks
Supersonic Red → ~5% → ~19,500 trucks
Lunar Rock → ~4% → ~15,600 trucks
Army Green → ~3% → ~11,700 trucks
Solar Octane (TRD Pro only) → ~1.5% → ~5,800 trucks
Smoked Mesquite (trim-limited) → ~0.5% → ~1,900 trucks

Of course this does not count the TRD Pro only colors like Solar Octane. Also I am not sure because I see a lot a lot of Lunar Rock truck in my specific area but that probally means they are much more rare in other parts of the country?

I wonder does this mean my truck is worth more because it is more rare?
