- 2023 TRD Off Road SR5 4X4
Hey everyone! I’ve been tossing around the idea of upgrading to the heated TRD Pro steering wheel for my 2022+ Tundra, and I wanted to get some thoughts from the community. My current TRD Off-Road model has been awesome, but I’ve been missing that extra touch of luxury and functionality that the TRD Pro wheel offers – especially with the heated feature.
Why I’m Interested
Living in SoCal, I know it doesn’t get that cold compared to other places, but those chilly winter mornings and mountain trips can still make a heated wheel feel like a game changer. I’ve always liked how the TRD Pro wheel looks too – it’s got that thicker, more premium feel with the red stripe and perforated leather grip. Honestly, it just feels like it would take the driving experience to another level.
Pros of the TRD Pro Heated Wheel
Heated Comfort – This is probably the biggest selling point for me. Even in moderate climates, having warm hands on cold mornings is such a nice perk. I’ve heard it warms up quickly and evenly, which is a nice bonus.
TRD Pro Styling – The red center marker and TRD logo give it a really sporty, aggressive look that just feels right in the Tundra. It’s a small detail that can really elevate the interior vibe.
Premium Feel – The leather on the TRD Pro wheel is softer and more supple than the standard wheel, giving it that luxury feel that’s missing in some of the lower trims.
Potential Cons
Cost – Let’s be real, this upgrade doesn’t come cheap. I’ve seen prices anywhere from $700 to $1,000 depending on the source and availability. That’s a big chunk of change for a steering wheel, even if it’s heated.
Installation – Swapping out a steering wheel isn’t the most complicated mod, but it’s definitely more involved than bolting on a new skid plate. Airbags and wiring for the heater function can be tricky, so I’m leaning toward having a pro handle the install.
Availability – Depending on the color and style you want, these can be hard to track down. Some folks have mentioned waiting weeks or even months to get their hands on one.
Final Thoughts
Despite the price tag and the extra work to get it installed, I’m seriously leaning toward making the switch. I spend a lot of time in my truck, and it’s the little upgrades like this that make it feel that much more special. Plus, that TRD Pro styling just ties together the whole build – especially if you’ve already done some other TRD Pro touches like the grille or skid plate.
What about you guys? Has anyone already done this upgrade in their 2022+ Tundra? I’d love to hear your thoughts – was it worth it, and did you notice a big difference in comfort or style? Or did you decide to skip it and put the money elsewhere? Let’s hear those real-world experiences!
