2023 TRD Off Road SR5 4X4
I just picked up a DJI Mini 3 and I’m stoked to start capturing some epic footage during my off-roading trips. I’ve seen a few awesome drone shots from other builds out on the trail, and I’d love to step up my content game with dynamic videos and clean aerial photos.

This is my first drone, so I’m still learning the ropes, but I’d love to hear from those of you who’ve been flying for a while – especially in off-road or overland environments.

Here’s what I’m looking for help with:
  • Best camera settings (4K vs 1080, frame rate, color profile, etc.) for capturing trail runs, hill climbs, or scenic camp spots
  • Tips for tracking your vehicle while driving – I know the Mini 3 doesn’t have obstacle avoidance on the sides/back, so I’m trying to figure out how to make tracking work safely
  • Creative shot ideas – flyovers, pull-backs, orbiting the truck, etc. I want to keep it varied
  • How you manage battery life on longer trail days
  • Mounting ideas for drone launch/landing in the middle of rough terrain (hood, tailgate, etc.)
  • Any editing apps or workflows you recommend for putting together reels or YouTube clips
  • Bonus points for safety tips – I definitely don’t want to crash this thing into a rock or cactus on the first run
Any insight from people who use drones on the trail would be super helpful! I want to use this thing to really show off the terrain, the rig, and the whole off-road experience in a cinematic way.

Thanks in advance – and if you’ve got sample footage, drop a link! Would love some inspiration.
