- 2023 TRD Off Road SR5 4X4
Lately, I’ve been eyeing one interior upgrade that I know would elevate the driving experience in my 3rd Gen Tundra: swapping out the stock SR5 steering wheel for the Heated TRD Pro Steering Wheel. It might sound like a small detail compared to lift kits, racks, or lighting—but anyone who spends real time behind the wheel knows just how big of a difference the right steering wheel can make.
The SR5 wheel? It’s fine. Functional, no major complaints—but let’s be honest, it’s also basic. No heating, no premium grip feel, and definitely not on par with the rest of the upgrades I’ve done inside the cabin. For a truck that’s been built out for off-road and overland capability, the steering wheel feels like one of the last untouched pieces… and that needs to change.
Enter the Heated TRD Pro Steering Wheel.
Not only does it look 10x better with its red stitching and contoured grip, but the heating feature is a legit game-changer—especially on those cold early morning trail runs or winter road trips. No more freezing hands when I first hop in. The heating element is integrated, responsive, and designed to work seamlessly with the factory system on compatible models.
But it’s not just about comfort. The TRD Pro wheel feels sportier, thicker, and more confident in your hands. It’s wrapped in premium materials that just make every drive feel a little more intentional. Whether I’m cruising the highway or navigating rocky switchbacks, the tactile feedback is far better than the standard SR5 wheel.
From what I’ve researched, the swap is plug-and-play on most 2022+ Tundras if your truck already has the heated steering wheel wiring in place. If not, there are a few workarounds, and the community has already figured out most of the install details. You just need the TRD Pro wheel, the correct clockspring if required, and possibly some programming depending on the year/model.
What I also appreciate is that this isn’t just a cosmetic mod—it’s one that actually enhances daily use, adds value, and makes the truck feel more like a TRD Pro-level build, even if you didn’t start with one.
So yeah… this mod is definitely on the radar. I’ve upgraded so much of my Tundra already—suspension, wheels, lighting, switch systems, tech—and now it’s time to show the interior some love. The TRD Pro Heated Steering Wheel is next on the hit list.
Anyone here already made the swap? Would love to hear how it’s working out for you and if the heating was worth it. Drop your thoughts or tips below!
