When I was shopping for my truck one of the things I didn't settle on was wanting the 14in screen. BUT, I was still looking at SR5 packages that only had the 8in screen because I found out you can swap out the screen.

NOW! I am not talking about some after market android base screen that doesn't implement well with the truck. To my surprise a OEM Toyota 14in screen is plug and play into the truck. The screens are not VIN tied or need to be unlocked or reprogram. They just plug in. But there is a catch to that. If you truck did not come with the 14 in screen it does not have the volume knob on the dash. Now the steering wheel buttons DO work and you can modify the dash. Lets get into it.

First this is the video I watched where the dude actually did it.

Parts List:
Screen - 86100-0C360
Volume Knob - 86128-AN020
Switch and Volume Assembly - 86170-0C010

Things you need to know:
  • The screen is easiest found on Ebay for around $800. Make sure you pay attached to JBL vs no JBL depending on what you have inside of your truck. Also you want to make sure you get one with the vents on the side. If not you need to modify you existing vents which isn't fun this makes it even more plug an play.
  • You can simply remove the dash assembly where the volume knob is supposed to be. You are able to use a step bit like in the video to add the volume knob and switch and the wiring is already there. People even say there is a marking were you need to drill.
  • Also please if you do there add your photos below. Also check to make sure it all turns on before putting the dash back together.

I have read that you need to take the truck to a dealer to VIN match so you can transfer your account to the new radio, like you have it set up on the 8inch. Have you heard of this? Is this true? Have you done the 14 inch screen upgrade. Thank you.

I have a couple of potentially dumb questions but I'm willing to face the back lash haha.

For reference, I have a 2025 SR5. No advanced package or anything, pretty basic.

1. I feel like it is probably next to impossible to find the climate control cluster that matches the current single zone in the SR5 that has a volume knob; is it possible to make dual climate control work or is that a "come from the factory" deal?
2. The seat heater function obviously would not work if the truck doesn't come with seat heaters; is it possible to wire seat heaters into that button function later on? (Ex. Katzkins leather has heater options, instead of adding a button can they be wired into the instrument gage?)

I would love to do the switch to the 14", It would be minorly frustrating to have button functions that don't do anything. Which is my own fault for not getting a limited or platinum but the SR5 was an insane deal and more than I needed.

Hey man my truck is a limited. But according to the video I linked and other guys I talked too surprisingly the radio is not VIN tied. Surprised me too because even my 3rd gen Tacoma was tied.

Hey man let me see if I can help.

1. You are correct to find the single zone control cluster would be impossible. I would take apart the unit and check if you have the cable for the knob and just modify the one you have. That being said you is not super impossible as they did have SR5 single climate with the technology package that came with the 14in screen.

2. Yes you can you can get aftermarket heated seats and wire them in to use the OEM button. You would need a 12v source, fuses, and know how to do the wiring. I am not sure of your technical level but I would say this would be a moderate modification but not impossible.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info. I guess I can try the 14 inch and see if I can add my profile without a VIN sync. I’d assume the dealer could reset if needed. Also, if I was to transfer my Sirius XM account, they may want the VIN which the radio would be installed on but not registered 🤷🏼‍♂️

Let me know how it goes!!

In your research, have you seen or know the part number for the harness to the knob? I looked today and I do not have the harness into the dummy plug as mentioned in the video. Thanks

I have a 2026 so they may have discontinued doing that.

Do you have any photos? I found this on using my Toyota manual bot

If you bought the 14 inch screen (86100-0C360) and the switch and volume assembly (86170-0C010) but you are missing the small plug that goes into the volume assembly, Toyota sells the connector parts. You essentially build the pigtail yourself (or buy a pre made pigtail from an aftermarket seller).

What to buy (OEM)

  1. Connector housing (the plug body)

  1. Terminals with leads (repair wires)

How this usually works

  • You snap the repair terminals into the connector housing (90980-12551), then splice those leads into the appropriate wires in your dash harness (or into the head unit harness, depending on how your retrofit is laid out).
  • If your 86170-0C010 port uses 2 cavities, you typically need two 82998-12870 repair terminals.

Important fitment note for your 2026

  • 86100-0C360 is commonly listed for earlier 3rd gen applications (some catalogs show “to 01/2022” and “without 12 speaker audio”). Toyota Parts+1
Because you are doing this on a 2026, you should visually confirm the connector shape and pin count on the back of your 86170-0C010 volume assembly before ordering terminals. The housing above is what multiple retrofit discussions point to for the knob connector, but Toyota does change sub harnesses by year and trim.

Fast way to confirm before you order

  • Look at the port on the back of 86170-0C010:
    • Count the number of metal pins inside the port (2, 4, etc).
    • Count the number of cavities needed in the plug you are missing.
    • That tells you how many 82998-12870 repair terminals you need.

If you tell me whether your truck is JBL or non JBL and whether your 86170-0C010 port is 2 pin or 4 pin, I can tighten this to the exact quantities and the cleanest splice location.

Here are some photos of what I have. I have not bought head unit yet, since I want to make sure I can get the knob to work. My truck is non JBL. It would be great to have a pre made harness if possible, just to reduce any wire splicing.
