2023 TRD Off Road SR5 4X4
Every build tells a story—and for my 3rd Gen Army Green Tundra, that story is all about capability, style, and purpose. I’ve spent the past year dialing in the perfect balance between function and form. While there are plenty of mods I could talk about, these five have been absolute game changers. Here’s what I’ve done so far and why I’d recommend these upgrades to any Tundra owner getting serious about their rig.

1. Baja Designs LP4 Lights
Lighting was one of my favorite upgrades and honestly, I should’ve done it even sooner. I went with the Baja Designs LP4s for a reason—they’re compact but powerful, delivering over 8,700 lumens each with a combination beam pattern that gives me both distance and wide-angle coverage.

Whether I’m hitting trails at dusk or cruising through the desert at night, these things make it feel like daylight. The amber backlight feature is a bonus—it looks killer with the Army Green color scheme and adds a nice touch for safety and style. Mounted on the bumper and wired into my auxiliary switch panel, these lights are as clean as they are capable.

2. TRD Pro Grille Conversion
One of the best visual upgrades I made was swapping out the factory grille for a TRD Pro-style grille. This mod completely transforms the front end of the 3rd Gen Tundra, giving it that aggressive, bold look it deserves. The mesh design, integrated TOYOTA block lettering, and amber raptor-style lights scream off-road authority.

Not only does it elevate the aesthetics, but it also gives you better airflow and more space for customization—whether it’s badges, light mounts, or emblem lighting. For the price and simplicity of the install, this mod brings an incredible return on visual impact. It’s one of those things people instantly notice—even from across a parking lot.

3. Method Race Wheels MR312 (0 Offset)
The factory wheels had to go. I switched to a set of Method MR312s in Double Black with 0 offset, and the stance they give the truck is perfect—wide, aggressive, and planted. The 0 offset pushes the wheels out just enough to fill out the fenders without rubbing (especially once you dial in suspension and trimming).

Method is known for building rugged wheels that handle abuse, and these have taken everything I’ve thrown at them: rocks, ruts, sand, and even curbs in tight city parking. They’re light, strong, and just look tough.

4. Auxiliary Switch Panel (Rave Off Road Kit)
When you start adding lights, compressors, and other electrical gear, you need a clean way to control everything. I went with the Rave Off Road auxiliary switch kit, and it’s been flawless.

It’s compact, waterproof, and allows me to control multiple accessories without cluttering my dash with toggle switches or janky wiring. The install is straightforward and clean, and it really gives you that OEM+ look and feel. Best of all? It’s expandable, so I can add more accessories down the road with zero hassle.

5. Yotabeast Chase Lights
This might be one of the most underrated additions I’ve made. I added a Yotabeast triple chase light bar to the rear of my Tundra, and it checks all the boxes—function, safety, and style. This setup gives me rear visibility in dusty conditions, makes my truck easier to see on the trail, and looks awesome when lit up in amber.

The install is clean and tucks nicely under the tailgate. I’ve got it wired into my Rave Off Road switch panel with options to run it solid, flashing, or strobing depending on trail conditions. Whether I’m running with a group in Baja or just backing up in a dark lot, this mod adds visibility where it counts.

Final Thoughts
These five mods have made the biggest impact on how my 3rd Gen Tundra looks, drives, and performs. Each one was chosen for a reason—durability, ease of use, and functionality. Whether you’re building a mall crawler, a weekend overlander, or a full-time trail rig, these are upgrades that punch way above their weight.

Got any questions on install, wiring, or fitment? Drop a comment or shoot me a DM—always happy to help out fellow Tundra builders.
