- 2023 TRD Off Road SR5 4X4
So, here’s a little story about how I almost made a big switch… and why I’m glad I didn’t! A few weeks back, I was at my local Toyota dealership, and I spotted this absolutely gorgeous 2025 3rd Gen Tundra TRD Pro in Magnetic Gray Metallic (MGM). Let me tell you, that color in person is next-level – it looks super sleek and has that aggressive yet refined vibe that the TRD Pro is all about.
I’ve got a 3rd Gen Tundra SR5 TRD Off Road myself, in the Army Green color. And yeah, I’ll admit it – I’ve always had a soft spot for the TRD Pro. Seeing that MGM TRD Pro in the showroom really got me thinking. I started picturing myself behind the wheel, tackling trails with the upgraded Fox suspension, and just generally flexing that TRD Pro badge. It was all very tempting.
For a moment, I seriously considered making the trade. My Off Road model has been awesome so far – it’s got the Bilstein shocks, locking rear diff, and it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it without missing a beat. But that “new truck feeling” is real, and the thought of upgrading to the top dog of the TRD lineup had me daydreaming.
But here’s where it gets real: after a lot of back and forth, I decided to keep my Army Green TRD Off Road, and I honestly haven’t regretted it one bit. Sure, the TRD Pro has some serious perks, especially that Fox suspension that everyone raves about. But when I thought about my actual use and needs, I realized my Off Road model is already more than capable for everything I do – from off-road trips to camping weekends to just cruising around town.
Another thing that sealed the deal for me was how much I’ve come to love the Army Green color. It has this rugged charm that just stands out in the sea of trucks, and it’s one of those colors that you don’t see every day. My truck has become kind of an extension of my personality – tough, unique, and a little bit different from the crowd.
I also thought about how much I’ve put into making my current rig my own. Between the accessories I’ve added, the time I’ve spent dialing in my setup, and the memories I’ve already made with it, there’s a lot of sentimental value tied up in this truck. Trading it in for a new Pro would have felt like starting over in some ways, and I wasn’t sure I was ready for that.
In the end, I’m glad I didn’t let that showroom shine make the decision for me. I’ve got a truck that I know, trust, and love – and for now, that’s more than enough. The TRD Pro is still a dream truck for a lot of people, and who knows, maybe one day I’ll make the switch. But for now, I’m content where I’m at.
Have any of you been in the same spot? Thought about trading up but decided to hold onto what you’ve got? I’d love to hear what pushed you one way or the other. Let’s swap some stories!
